What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is an evidence-based therapeutic practice that supports people to explore emotional, mental, relational, somatic and personal patterns in a safe, confidential and reflective setting.

It takes a whole-person approach, recognising that wellbeing can be shaped by thoughts, emotions, relationships, life experiences, culture, spirituality and the way stress is held or expressed through the body.

Psychotherapy is generally a deeper and more reflective process than counselling. It may take place over a longer period of time, allowing space to understand how past experiences, relationship patterns, beliefs, emotions and body-based responses may be influencing life in the present.

Through this process, psychotherapy can support greater self-awareness, emotional insight, personal growth and more conscious ways of responding to life’s challenges.

People seek psychotherapy to help with:
  • Emotional overwhelm or distress

  • Relationship and family difficulties

  • Stress, anxiety or low mood

  • Grief, loss or major life changes

  • Past experiences affecting the present

  • Feeling stuck in repeated patterns

  • Identity, purpose or self-understanding

  • Mind-body stress responses

  • Personal growth and deeper reflection
