What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is a traditional East Asian therapy that uses a smooth-edged tool to work across the skin and soft tissue.
The technique involves repeated strokes over selected areas of the body, often with oil, to stimulate circulation, encourage lymphatic flow and support the release of tension through muscles and fascia.
Gua Sha may be used as part of Chinese medicine, acupuncture or bodywork treatment, depending on the practitioner’s approach. It is commonly applied to areas of muscular tightness, stiffness or restriction, and may support recovery where the body feels tense, heavy, inflamed or slow to release.
At All About Health Aldinga, Gua Sha may be used alongside acupuncture, cupping, remedial massage or other therapies to support tissue health, relaxation, mobility and the body’s natural recovery processes.

What to expect
Your practitioner will discuss your symptoms, treatment goals and any relevant health considerations before beginning. A smooth-edged tool is then used with oil to work across selected areas of the skin and soft tissue.
Gua Sha can leave temporary redness or marks on the skin, depending on the area treated and the level of stagnation or tissue response. These marks usually fade over time. Your practitioner will explain what to expect and adjust the treatment to suit your comfort and presentation.
